Freedom is what you do with what’s been done to you.
— Jean-Paul Sartre

The fundamental sense of fear and helplessness evoked by childhood trauma stays with a person long into adulthood and can affect every aspect of life. Traumatic experiences have devastating emotional effects and a lasting impact on the nervous system.

At Meridian, we have advanced training in trauma therapy using traditional cognitive-behavioral treatments combined with newer body-focused psychotherapies like Somatic Experiencing and EMDR.  Our approach addresses both the emotional and physiological effects of trauma; some of which include:

  • Emotional disconnection, shut down, numbness
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Substance Abuse
  • Compulsive Behaviors
  • Mood Swings
  • Flashbacks
  • Nightmares
  • Self-Destructive Behaviors
  • Persistent Relationship Problems
